Start Singing was established in the South Island 15 years ago to encourage hundreds of people to sing – people who lacked the confidence to perform yet always had the burning desire to develop their voice.
Since then Founder and Artistic Director, Kathi Craig, has taught hundreds of people in Otago, Canterbury and the Manawatu to sing in groups and has given them the confidence to perform in front of each other and then before an audience on the main stage.
Many have realised their wildest dreams by completing Trinity College exams and performing in starring roles in musical theatre, choirs and in concert.
As well as the disciplines of singing, connecting the breath to the voice, listening and learning to sing with each other, students find Start Singing therapeutic. They come for relaxation, to improve their medical conditions, to build confidence in themselves, to take their minds away from their work, to participate, listen and make long lasting friends.
Classes rung three times a week. New members welcome.
